If you like green holidays in Italy, a must-see place is the enchanting Lake Como in Lombardy, surrounded by verdant vegetation and many neoclassical villas. Follow our tips and discover some nice itineraries to enjoy here!
Lake Como has been a retreat for poets and aristocrats in the past, today is an ideal venue for sailing, windsurfing and trekking, thanks to its charming wildlife and its mild climate (springtime and summertime are the best times for a trip around here). The first thing to do is choice where to stay: some of the most popular destinations are Bellagio, Menaggio, Cernobbio and Laglio, each town offers different accommodation facilities, as relais, ancient villas and boutique hotels.
A boat ride is the better way to explore Lake Como: during my last trip here I saw by the motorboat Villa Oleandra, owned by George Clooney, and Villa Fontanelle, the luxury villa once owned by Versace and now restored by Arkady Novikov, a Russian billionaire. Private cruise tours available at Relais Villa Vittoria, the hotel where I stayed for my holiday on the shores of Lake Como, a comfortable villa provided with a Spa.
Located in Laglio, the Relais is renowned for its garden, because during the nineteenth century was used for raising silkworms to produce silk. Como, in fact is worldwide famous for its silk district and luxury fashion brands which make clothes and accessories with this precious fabric. A guided tour to the Museum of Silk in Como is another nice activity to do here, in addition to a shopping tour at the local stores!
A secluded beach on the Lake
The lake waters are warm in summer, so if you like to go to the beach, I suggest you the Lido di Lenno, a very chic artificial beach where to have an aperitif, enjoy a relaxing break reading a book under the gazebo, or swim in this beautiful lake. After the sunset, the outdoor bar became a meeting point for many locals, a fine place where to listen to music!
Forget the crowded beaches and the stressful beach resorts that are typical in other parts of Italy, here a quiet mood reigns as undisputed.
Have a dinner at a typical restaurant
If you like Italian gastronomical tradition like me, it would be better to go to a local restaurant instead of bar or pizzeria, and taste the fish-based menus and others traditional delicacies. My choice was the Bilacus restaurant in Bellagio, provided with an amazing terrace, a very romantic venue for a dinner! Besides the typical dishes as salmon trout and pumpkin ravioli, they have a wine list with the best Italian labels.
The restaurant is located at Via Serbelloni 32 in the historic center of Bellagio.
