1998 September Website italcult.net created. The objective is to create a single site from which all the Italian Cultural Institutes could be reachable and follow a similar structure, along the lines of the British Council (e.g. www.britishcouncil.org).
1998 October Added the Italian Cultural Institutes of  Zagreb (http://www.italcult.net/zagabria) and Edinburgh (http://www.italcult.net/edimburgo), which are now managed completely independently.
1999 May Wrote two consecutive letters to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (addressed to the then Director General of Cultural Relations), explaining my project and outlining the advantages both for visitors searching online to find the institutes, and cost wise as large savings could be reached on design and website addresses. I never received a response.
2000 January Adopted a strategy of convincing the Directors of the Cultural Institutes, by allowing visitors who could not find the institue to email me via a search form, and I would then forward their request by email or fax to the cultural institute. This system did not work either, and I only received one response from one Institute. I guess maybe my strategy was wrong, maybe the technology I was trying to push through was too advanced and complex to understand, maybe the idea of bringing together all the institutes was faulty, or maybe in some cases there was reluctance on behalf of the Institues to be found.
2002 September Revamped the site by linking directly to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs page, offering a message board and a facility to add new relevant links. This way I lose out on my original categorisation by continents, but at least I gain by offering more updated information. The old web site is available here.
